Beauty Awards – January

background Beauty Awards January

You’ve asked me so many questions about my skin care regime and hair and makeup favourites lately (which is a good thing and I’m totally thrilled about it ♥) so I thought I would sum up all my favourites for each month in one post. A monthly beauty award. How does that sound? That means I will sum up all my most loved products for this month only, not including summer favourites etc. If you like this post then please let me know so I know whether to keep doing them or not :)

Makeup

makeup award Beauty Awards January

1. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation.

Probably not a surprise, hehe? My skin is very sensitive and I break out very easily, however, this has proven to be safe. It provides medium coverage, feels and looks like skin and gives the most beautiful dewy glow. I use shade B30. Get it here.

2. Guerlain 4 seasons terracotta bronzer

This is a life saver, especially on early pale mornings! I love it can be used all year due to the four shades which run natural as opposed to the orange tinge many bronzers seem to have. I must also mention it lasts forever! I use the shade 02 Brunette. Get it here.

3. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

A long time favourite which is also safe for sensitive skin, at least for mine. I use this as a foundation as I think the coverage it provides is as good as many foundations I’ve tried. It gives the skin a beautiful healthy look without making the skin look oily. I use shade Sand. Not sure where to get it online but most airports always have a great offer for this!

4. Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara and Art Liner

I’m a big fan of Lancome’s mascaras! Normally I use the Hypnose previous cells but a friend convinced me to try this and it really is amazing! The brush is wide on one side and flat on the other making it easy to reach the roots of your lashes and the shorter hairs, making your lashes look fuller. The art liner has the perfect tip to line the lash line, it’s easy to make both a thin line and a thicker line. Get the mascara here and the liner here.

5. Mac Pinch Me Blush

I have two favourite blushes, that is Mac Pinch me and Nars Dolce Vita. This month I’ve been using Pinch me simply because it happend to end up in my makeup bag. I barely dot the brush in the pan (I like to use this brush for blushes btw) and lightly dust in onto my cheeks. Little by little :) Get it in Mac shops, Nars Dolce Vita can be found here.

6. YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in 02

As with blushes I also have two favourite lipsticks, that is YSL Rouge Volupte 02 Beige and Mac Hue. This month I’ve been wearing the YSL lipstick and I think it comes down to the amazingly beautiful packaging which decorates my environment no matter if it’s in my bag or on the shelf. I don’t actually smear it on but lightly dot it on instead as I like the matte look it creates. Get it here.

7. Urban Decay Naked Palette 1+2

I’ve been wearing very little eyeshadow this month but when I have these are my go-to palettes. Often I will use a little Naked or Buck just by the lash line to create a soft day smoked eyeliner, and a bit of shimmer by the tear duct – that is an instant pick me up btw! Get Naked 1 here, and Naked 2 here. I hear the new Naked Basics palette is great too?

8. Mac Subculture

Probably the most asked for product this month, even James commented it was “a great makeup lip thing I had done”. I’ve used this to fill in my lips and it gives a great matte nude lip! I highly recommend it :) Get it in Mac shops.

Skin care

skin care Beauty Awards January

1. Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

I love this so much!! If you read my blog this week you’ve probably already read my review, if not you can check it out here. This cleanser is especially great for sensitive skin, it removes makeup easily whilst still not stripping the skin for moisture. And the smell… my god.. it’s heavenly! ♥ Multi award winning for a reason I guess he he. Get it here.

2. Ole Henriksen Herbal Day Creme with spf 15

This moisturiser transformed my skin from moderate acne to almost free of blemishes in only days! I have never seen anything like it before and I’m so thankful I found this. It’s for normal/combination skin and moisturises while still letting the skin breathe. The spf is for both UVA and UVB rays, meaning it protects from both aging and burning rays. You can read more about it in my review, here. Get it here.

3. Ole Henriksen Truth Collagen Booster

Another multi award winning product. This serum is packed with c-vitamins and antioxidants which helps rebuild the skin tissue, and this is a must have if you’re looking to slow down the aging process or even out the skin tone. Read more about it in my review here. Get it here, OR…

1. Phillip Kingsley Body Building Volume Shampoo

I love Phillip Kingsley’s treatments and conditioners so I wanted to try a shampoo too and this one has quickly become my new fav volume shampoo! It makes the hair light without stripping off moisture, LOVE! Get it here. Offer right now: Receive a free Philip Kingsley Elasticizer 40ml worth £8 when you spend over £30 on Philip Kingsley products!

2. Phillip Kinglsey Conditioner Moisture Balance

It’s unbelievable how soft it makes my hair, almost like a hair mask only you get much more product for your money :) Get it here. Offer right now: Receive a free Philip Kingsley Elasticizer 40ml worth £8 when you spend over £30 on Philip Kingsley products!

3. Kerastase Forcintense

I’ve used this for probably about 7 years or so now and it’s still my favourite for when my hair really needs that bit of extra attention, which normally is proteins. The treatment is divided in two, first step is to nurture the hair follicle and second is to lock in the proteins. This is some serious hair salon stuff and I always feel like I’m spoling my hair whenever I use it. I can’t recommend it enough! Get it here.

4. Kerastase Ciment Thermique

Heat protectant and heat activating hair mask in one! It smells really good, makes my hair soft and easy managable and protects against heat – what’s not to love? Get it here.

5. Kérastase Nutritive masqueintense

A great mask for when moisture is needed! I only use it in the ends of my hair and so it lasts forever despite the fact that I use it almost every time I wash my hair. Both this and the Kerastase Forcintense mentioned above are must haves if you don’t want the hair dresser to cut off your locks! Get it here.

6. John Masters Organics deep scalp follicle treament and volumiser

I’ve written a review about this one too, you can read it here if you missed it. The photos in the review tells better than any words, my hair started growing insanely faster after I started using this. To be honest it doesn’t provide that much volume, but the health of the sclap and the growth of the hair is tremendous! Definitely a must have if you’re saving for long hair! Get it here.

7. Diva hot air styler

I’ve written a review on this not too long ago, if you missed it you can read it here. It’s a salon blow dry at home basically! Really easy to use, easier on the hair than curling irons and good value for the money. Get it here.

8. Clip in hair extension

I’d prefer to keep this to my self as it’s one of those things you like to pretend to be real, but I do sometimes cheat when it comes to my hair. I find clip ins the perfect solution for me as it both looks and feels perfectly real and is easy and quick to apply, yet I don’t have to sleep with it or work out with i. I use the shade 60/24 – Sandy Blonde, a full set + quad clip, get it here.

9. Moroccan Oil

I completely forgot when putting the pictures together, but I have been using Moroccan oil a lot as well, amazing stuff, but I’m sure you’ve heard all about it so I won’t bore you with that ;) Get it here.

Please let me know if this is something you want me to continue doing, either by a comment or a like on bloglovin or facebook :) I would also LOVE to hear your favourites, maybe you know of products that are better than some of these? Tell me, tell me!! ♥

I love posts like this! :) So, a once-a-month beauty awards-post seems like a great idea to me!
As for my product faves this month, the I think the one that surprised me the most was the Let the Good Times Roll cleanser from Lush! I had actually splurged on a lot of Chanel HydraBeauty skincare products just days before purchasing the Lush cleanser, but this really sweet sales assistant at Lush in Oxford convinced me to try it, and the only thing I regret is not buying a bigger tub, since it’s limited edition for christmas.. The Chanel products, on the other hand, sort of failed to impress actually. I have this horrible feeling they actually made me break out a bit..
Oh, and Urban Decay’s Dew Me Makeup Setting Spray also deserves a mention:) Love it!

Yes I like it very much Celina :) It’s great idea to make posts something like this every month. I must admit that I use most of this products especially for makeup but I’ve never tried this Ole Henriksen skin care.I got frightened when I’ve read that you don’t recommend 3-step skin care from clinique because several months ago I bought it at long suggestions of Spehora’s shop assistant…I have very sensitive and dry skin and I think it wasn’t good buy beacause after using this product my skin is more dry than before :( I don’t imagine my life without Guerlain 4 seasons as well and I think it’s the best kiss of the sun! After your makeup tutorials with naked palette I bought it recently and I’m very glad about it :) I have to tell you about my another one amazing product which I discovered severals months ago. It’s Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask and I love it! I don’t know how but this mask make my face more smooth and fresh-looking.I really recommend it.

I totally love this post! Please do it again next month :)
I don’t have favorites in skin care or makeup as I’m still trying to figure out what works best for me, so thanks for your recommandations, it makes me want to try so many things (especially the naked palettes, and your mac lipner, and… Oh well, everything!!)
Though I do have a favorite when it comes to haircare, it’s Leonor Greyl Sérum de Soie Sublimateur, it’s basically a cream that you uses on your hair (wet or dry) and it… I don’t know, it just does something great, nothing spectacular, but I love it, it’s non-greasy, but helps lock in the moisture, fights frizz and smells amazing. It has become one of my staples.

Great post! I’m a lot like you, traditional products for “acne prone skin” just cause me to have imbalances, excessive dryness, and break out more. I’m curious, though…a lot of the stores around me that carry Ole Henriksen products have stopped carrying the herbal day creme. Do you think they are discontinuing it from the line? Also, how is the scent?

This also avoid you having to answer tons of comments every day about what you’re using :)

How does that sound?! That sounds great! I do like this post, and I find your advices really helpful! I actually ordered a set of extensions from Locks&Bonds and I am completely in love with them. The color perfectly matches my own hair and I love that feeling of having head full of hair :D I also wanted to order that cream from Ole Henriksen, but unfortunately is it sold out :(. I´ve just finished my face cream from Avene and I feel like a really need something new…

I LOVE this post. I was just considering a new foundation and moisturizer so this really comes at the perfect time. I’ve used tinted moisturizer in the past and will probably try out your suggestion as well as the day creme. I think I found the tinted moisturizer online, here’s the link :
http://www.sephora.com/product/productDetail.jsp?keyword=LAURA%20MERCIER%20Tinted%20Moisturizer%20SPF%2020%20-%20Oil%20Free%20P140906&skuId=905364&productId=P140906&_requestid=59173

Sephora also carries the Ole Henriksen line for people in the States who may not want to wait so long for it to ship from Europe :)

My favorites this year have been surprising, I used to use glo mineral pressed powder but I recently went back to Bare Minerals, I found that with Glo by the afternoon my face would be so oily and since i dont like retouching my face so much Bare Minerals took care of that problem lol.

Skincare: Rhonda Allison products are working great for me.

Mascara: VOLUM’ EXPRESS TURBO BOOST WASHABLE MASCARA this is my all time favorite!

Eos lip balm is the best thing as well

Dear Celina, I’m very interested in other girl’s monthly favorites, I’d love to read a post like this every month! <3 I'm absolutely in love with the YSL touche eclat foundation at the moment :) I'm very happy I tried it out because my favorite foundation (Vitalumiere by Chanel) is too dark for my pale skin during the winter and the YSL color range is very good (even in Germany:D)

Thanks for sharing! :)

I love this post! I do have a question… what do you do to protect your hair when you go to hot yoga? I’ve just gotten a month’s pass and I’m not sure what product to use to keep my shine and healthiness. Maybe the Kérastase Nutritive masqueintense?

Reply

Celina January 29, 2013 at 00:54

I don’t do anything, it’s just a humid room? I wash my hair afterwards though :) If you want I’m sure a hair mask would be great for your hair as it holds the moisture in, but I’m not sure if I would feel comfortable with mt hair soaked in a mask while in a class hihi :)

Honest Opinion: I like the idea but with other bloggers/vloggers who do this, sometimes I feel like the just start using different products and mentioning them for the sake of their “monthly favorites” not sounds repetative. Then I start to wonder if they really do like the products they mention because the following month they’re naming something else as their “favorite”

I don’t know. Are these favorite posts on beauty only (like most blog/vloggers?) or is it going to consist of other things like maybe restaurants, fashion, decor?

Whatever you choose to do, I’ll still be reading your blog :)

Reply

Celina January 29, 2013 at 00:52

I can’t answer for others, but I sure wouldn’t start using other products just for the sake of it. Then the whole point is gone….? It would only be for beauty products as I can’t really see how a decor item can be a favourite of the month hehe :)

Yes, I have the same problem reading beauty blogs. I do not trust them anymore (majority of them) because I have noticed they are not really honest. I do not like sponsored beauty bloggers, but this blog is different, and I know that Laura Mercier did not pay Celina to advertize her product. :))

I love your beauty product reviews and makeup tutorials. I actually just ordered the Ole Henriksen starter kit (including the truth serum) after reading your review. I’m always on the lookout of good skin products since I have to deal with problem skin. I just finished doing the Obagi treatment and I had pretty impressive results, but it’s just so expensive at $400.00+ per kit! I’m excited to see what the Henriksen products do for me.

Also, I love your outfit posts and restaurant reviews…pretty much most of the stuff you post! hehe. Great blog, Celina!

Love it! Super for sensitiv hud. Også Mac da, selvsagt! :)

Pernille January 29, 2013 at 13:13

Klem, Pernille

I love the beauty awards post idea!! It’s a great way to re-cap what the best things are for the season and to highlight new products that have come out and are worth sharing. I’m so glad you shared your current favourite shampoo. I’ve been looking for a good volumizing one, and I love the price point on it because it’s less than what I’ve been paying for things that just aren’t great for the hair. I also love the new Hypnose Star! I picked it up for my performance makeup bag, but have started using it all the time because it’s just fantastic. I really like that you separated this post neatly into groups and explained what you like about the products. You should definitely do more of these posts!

Supert innlegg!

Hi Celina,

I LOVE posts like this. I always learn about something new. I am a big fan of Kerastase. I use the Bain Satin1, the Lait Vital and also the Masquintense when needed. I rotate this with John Masters Evening Promrose Shampoo and Citrus Neroli Detangler.

I just ran out of all three Kerastase products and decided to purchase some Shu Uemura Art of Hair products as I have been in love with the Essence Absolue for about a year now. I usually hate hair product and never use it as I feel the build up! But this is amazing and makes my hair feel like bouncy silk, so I decided to try out the shampoo and conditioner as the set comes with a travel size of the Essence. The line gets great reviews so we’ll see.

For skin I have been enamored with Revive products. I have crazy sensitive and combination skin. The moisture renewal cream (at night), sensitif cellular repair cream spf 15 (day) and tinted moisturizer are now staples for me and I can’t believe the difference in texture. They actually have quite safe and natural ingredients in them for something so powerful. The cleansing gelee and rose fermitif neck cream aren’t bad either.

Thanks again for sharing your favorites with us. I’d love this to be a regular post/subject.

Hi Celina,

Out of Yves SL foundation and Nars which one is your favourite?

Also, you’ve done some drug store hauls, how are you liking the products?

And do you use drug store makeup for every day and the more brand name stuff for going out? Like do you use the less pricey stuff day to day? I’m debating whether I should get all sephora stuff day in and day out or if I should get seperate cheaper makeup for daily use and to work, and the nicer stuff like Nars etc for when I’m seeing friends or going out?

Thanks!

Reply

Celina January 30, 2013 at 20:51

The two foundations can’t be compared like that, it depends whether you’re looking for medium or full coverage. The YSL is great for everyday use or if you’re skin is fairly blemish free, whilst the Nars foundation gives en excellent full coverage which is great for acne or areas where you’re looking to cover up more.

I have done som drugstore hauls, and I think mascaras, eyeliners (if you know the technique well, if not go for lancome artliner as that makes it much easier), lipglosses, blushes and nail polishes can be alright, but the other stuff I normally find I need to pay more for to get the quality I’m looking for. I use what I like regardless of brands and price or what event it’s for, but it’s probably not a bad idea to save the pricier stuff for the weekend if you can find cheaper stuff that is satisfying :)
