Beauty

Makeup tutorial I’ve used a mix of products and brands of which some are limited edition and not available anymore, but that doesn’t matter. The tutorial is meant to be a guide line and you can easily swap the products I’ve used for something similar to get the exact same look. Everything I’ve used is something I’m guessing most people already have in their makeup bag, or should anyway ;) I’ll add a little list of recommended products in the end – hope you like it :)

1. Start by applying an eyeshadow primer all over the lid, this will ensure your eyeshadow will stay put all day and avoid the dreaded zebra look. My favourite is this one. Wash over a nude eyeshadow to create a good base for further application using a big fluffy brush. I’ve used Mac Brule.

IMG 8569 Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

2. Blend in a light brown shadow in the outer corner creating a backward C as shown below. I’ve used Mac Cork.

step 2 makeup tutorial Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

3. Apply a light peachy pink shimmery shadow to the rest of the lid. When working with shimmer shadows it makes more sense to dab it on with your finger as they can be quite tricky to apply with a brush. I’ve used the second shade from the left in this palette from Chanel, Urban Decay Scratch is a great dupe.

step 3 makeup tutorial Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

4. Again using a finger, dab on a light shimmer shadow to the inner corner of the eye. This will brighten the eyes and works particularly brilliant for tired eyes in the morning. I’ve used the first shade to the leftin this palette from Chanel, Urban Decay Virgin is a great dupe.

Step 4 makeup tutorial Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

5. Line the upper lash line and the outer part of the lower lash line with a brown liner. A brown liner creates a softer look which is better for daytime than when using a black liner.

Step 5 makeup tutorial Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

.. and apply mascara!

.. or if you’re looking to make it into more of an evening look, add a bit of shimmery black shadow to the outer corner where you’ve applied the light brown shade. I’ve used the shade to the right in this palette from Chanel. Gunmetal from Urban Decay would work well as a dupe.

IMG 8662 Easy 5 step Summer Daytime Look

Face:

I’ve used a light weight foundation with medium coverage in the areas where I feel it’s needed, and I’ve left the skin bare where I don’t feel I need any coverage. This gives a more natural look. After foundation I’ve lightly dusted some matting powder all over the face, and applied a light pink blush to the cheeks and a bit of contouring under the cheekbones and along the jaw line. To give a healthy sheen I finished off with a highlighter on top of the cheek bones. I like to keep my lips nude in the daytime so I lined them up with a nude lipliner, followed by a neutral lip balm.

chanel mac makeup Makeup tutorial in the making

I know, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Summer is upon us and I thought I’d create a cute summer look for daytime which can easily be transformed to an evening look. I don’t know about you, but I often find that a glass or two in the daytime suddenly becomes the start of the evening and I rush home to get change and need a quick fix to transform my daytime look into a more evening appropriate one. Or maybe you’re heading straight out after work? Hopefully you’ll find this tutorial useful.

I’m having quite a lot of fun here actually. Our flat here in London has an amazing music system, I plug in my iphone and the music is played in every room I want like bathroom, dressing room, kitchen.. it’s really great and I will miss it when we go back to Monaco. Right now I’m playing Pascha Ibiza 40 years 1973-2013 while feeling exited about the girls trip to Ibiza this summer.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop by to say hello and to give you an idea of the look that will be posted tomorrow :) Hope you’re having a  fantastic day!! xx

IMG 7243 The prettiest white nail varnish

Move over, Chanel! There is a new babe on the nail shelf. Meet Narcissist Écume – the new Nars limited edition colour. Spring’s trendiest nail shade is white, and I can’t remember having been as fascinated by a nail varnish since Chanel Mimosa. Milk white finger tips as if dipped in whipped cream, paired with an all white outfit from top to toe? Yes, please!

IMG 7249 The prettiest white nail varnish

You can find it HERE

While we’re on the subject. What if I told you I know a secret to how to apply nail varnish like the professional nail artists do? A way which means even the clumpsiest nail painters, like yours truly, can apply nail polish beautifully without even the littlest leak of nail varnish on the cuticles. Yes, that’s right.. check this out:

de7d8b6d42d118de90332ce33336c621 The prettiest white nail varnish

How to apply nail varnish like a pro:

  1. File and buff.
  2. Apply a base coat
  3. Place a small drop on the lower par tof the nail, leaving some space between the nail and cuticle
  4. Push the drop down towards the cuticle, stopping before it meets the cuticle.
  5. Brush outwards in one line
  6. Push the brush carefully to one side of the corner
  7. Brush outwards in one line
  8. repeat on the other side
  9. Apply topcoat

….and then..

To perfect the border line you can dip a small pencil in nail varnish remover and make a perfect border along the cuticle.

IMG 7255 The prettiest white nail varnish

Pretty nifty, huh? I suggest you pin or bookmark and save it for later :D Now don’t screw up your effort, find lots of unread blog posts or tv series and don’t touch a thing for an hour.

Hope you’re having a great day!! xx

Aaaah, I’m hovering on materialistic happiness today! I’ve done some really great purchases and I can’t wait for them to arrive! I’m sorry for two sales posts in a row, I understand it’s less exciting to read but you always ask me where I’ve gotten my things and to give you a heads up on good sales and I thought both of these were too good to miss out on :)

Today I started my day with some good ol’ makeup brush cleaning. It’s been way too long since last time and I bet they were full of little grumpy germs. I need to get much better at regularly washing them like I used to. It’s hard keeping good routines when you travel a lot. You often ask me about what brushes I use and what I use them for so I thought I would write a quick post on my everyday brushes, my absolute essentials.

 IMG 6989 Essentials

The small brushes from the left:

Brush to smudge the eyeliner – HERE
Brush to apply concealer to small spots/scars – HERE
Brush to apply lipstick – HERE
Brush to blend eyeshadow in the crease – HERE
Brush to apply eyeshadow to the whole lid – Bobbi Brown Eye Blender (similar HERE)

The big brushes:

Brush to apply highlighter to the cheekbone – HERE & similar HERE
3 x angled brushes for blush* HERE
Brush for contouring the cheekbone – HERE
Brush for powder or bronzer – HERE

*This brush can be used for anything, it’s a brilliant brush! And you need more than one, trust me!

Check out this post to see all my favourite makeup items as well as hair and skin care favourites.

IMG 6986 Essentials

They were all clean this morning but I’ve obviously used one of them today which is why it’s a bit pinky :)

Later tonight we’re going to the movies to see Oblivion with Tom Cruise, anyone seen it? I’m not a massive fan of Tom Cruise I must admit, but I’ve heard great things. James begged me to come with him so I swapped for 30 minutes of massage, ha ha, I feel I won this one.. ;)

Hope you’re having a great day! xx

IMG 6655 Easy 5 min bad hair day fix

This updo is really gorgeous and glamorous, and despite it looking like something that would require a great deal of patience it’s actually done in less than 5 min which makes it a great go-to look for too early mornings (…or sunday mornings or just any morning) you just can’t be bothered spending time on your hair.

All you need is:

  • Bobby pins
  • Bad hair day
  • Hair spray

Personally I find this look to actually work better on bad hair days than on good hair days because the hair is more light weight and textured. If you’re one of those who don’t have bad hair days (you little lucky duck) you can always create some texture and volume by using some dry shampoo, my all time favourite is by Batiste and is called XXL volume and can be found in Boots for next to nothing.

If I don’t wash my hair for a couple of days is ends up being as dry and intractable as cotton candy, perfect condition for a glamorous updo :)

IMG 6722 Easy 5 min bad hair day fix

Right let’s get to it.

1. Take the upper half of your hair and pin back. If you want some volume on the crown you can always tease a little bit first.

IMG 6730 Easy 5 min bad hair day fix

2. Divide into three sections.

3. Start with your middle section. Twist the hair and half roll it up while pinning it up. It doesn’t really matter how it looks like as you will have the other two sections up there too. I find that few and loose twisted sections work better for me, but you can of course have several well twisted sections too.

IMG 6735 Easy 5 min bad hair day fix

4. Do the same with the other two sections, twist – roll – pin. Have a look in the mirror and reorganise into an organised mess you’re happy with.

IMG 66731 Easy 5 min bad hair day fix

5. Do some quick pirouettes to make sure it’s all in place and finish off with hairspray. Tadaaaaa! :)

background Beauty Awards March

I hope you’re having a great Saturday morning? I’ve started mine with a breakfast feast only mothers know how to make and am completely stuffed as I sit here and type. A reader kindly reminded me about being late for The Beauty Award this month, so here it is a little late. Truth is I haven’t changed a thing in my routine other than purchasing a new Dior Addict lipstick on the airport on my way to Norway and it’s too early to tell if I like it or not, but if I do it’ll be an addition to the next month Beauty Awards anyway I guess. So maybe it’s little boring this month, but at least they are genuine favourites:

Makeup

makeup award Beauty Awards March

1. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation.

Still my favourite! My skin is very sensitive and I break out very easily, however, this has proven to be safe. It provides medium coverage, feels and looks like skin and gives the most beautiful dewy glow. I use shade B30. Get it here.

2. Laura Mercier Primer

I’ve been meaning to get this for the longest time, and finally I got it when I was at the airport. I really like it as it smooths out the skin and makes the foundation look better and stay on for longer. I also love that it’s oil free! Get it here.

3. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

A long time favourite which is also safe for sensitive skin, at least for mine. I use this on areas without blemishes and scars, and use the foundation (mentioned above) only on the areas where I need coverage – it gives a natural appearance which I like. It gives the skin a beautiful healthy look without making the skin look oily. I use shade Sand. I also just got the oil free one which seems to be pretty similar, only al little thicker in consistency. You can get it here.

4. Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara and Art Liner

I’m a big fan of Lancome’s mascaras and have been for years! Normally I use the Hypnose previous cells but a friend convinced me to try this and it really is amazing! The brush is wide on one side and flat on the other making it easy to reach the roots of your lashes and the shorter hairs, making your lashes look fuller. The art liner has the perfect tip to line the lash line, it’s easy to make both a thin line and a thicker line. Get the mascara here and the liner here.

5. Mac Pinch Me Blush

I have two favourite blushes, that is Mac Pinch Me and Nars Dolce Vita, they are my go to blushes. Last month and this month I’ve been using Pinch me simply because it happend to end up in my makeup bag. I barely dot the brush in the pan (I like to use this brush for blushes btw) and lightly dust in onto my cheeks. Little by little :) Get Mac Pinch Me here, and Nars Dolce Vita here.

6. Mac Blotpowder

My t-zone sometimes get a bit oily, so normally I just use blotting paper to get rid of the shine. However, when I came across the blotpowder by Mac I was intrigued as it doesn’t have any colour – it just takes the shine away which is exactly what I want. Get it here.

7. Mac Studio Sculpt concealer

This is hands down the best concealer for covering up. Because it’s hard to sterilize pots I just buy new ones now and then, and this month I discovered they’ve stopped producing this wonderful concealer!!! I really hope they will be replacing it with something similar and even better!  I use a small tapered brush to apply it and use a bit of Mac blotpowder to make it stay put.

8. Mac Subculture

Probably the product you ask about the most, even James commented he likes it and he rarely comments my makeup. I use it to fill in my lips and it gives a great matte nude lip! I highly recommend it :) Get it here.

Skin care

skin care feb Beauty Awards March

1. Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

I love this so much!! If you read my blog this week you’ve probably already read my review, if not you can check it out here. This cleanser is especially great for sensitive skin, it removes makeup easily whilst still not stripping the skin for moisture. And the smell… my god.. it’s heavenly! ♥ Multi award winning for a reason I guess he he. Get it here.

2. Ole Henriksen Herbal Day Creme with spf 15

This moisturiser transformed my skin from moderate acne to almost free of blemishes in only days! I have never seen anything like it before and I’m so thankful I found this. It’s for normal/combination skin and moisturises while still letting the skin breathe. The spf is for both UVA and UVB rays, meaning it protects from both aging and burning rays. You can read more about it in my review, hereGet it here.

3. Ole Henriksen Truth Collagen Booster

Another multi award winning product. This serum is packed with c-vitamins and antioxidants which helps rebuild the skin tissue, and this is a must have if you’re looking to slow down the aging process or even out the skin tone. Read more about it in my review hereGet it here.

4. Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation

This is actually used to prep the skin of celebrities and models before they hit the red carpet and I totally get why – it’s like a skin brightening treatment in a jar! Love this! I use this overnight and it feels wonderful to wake up to a bright and awake face. I didn’t expect it to, but it has actually brightened some of my scars and evened out my skin tone since I started using it. Get it here.

5. Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub

YUM! This stuff smells so good! I use this once-twice a week to get rid of old skin cells and clean pores thoroughly to avoid black heads. A must have! Get it here.

6. Ole Henriksen Visual Truth Eye Creme

I hate to admit it but I’ve started seeing lines around my eyes, the kind of lines that doesn’t go away when you stop smiling :/ I doubt I have less lines now that I’ve started using this, but I haven’t noticed an increase at least and it seems to depuff my eyes which is good in the morning! Get it here.

Hair care

hair awards Beauty Awards March

1. Phillip Kingsley Body Building Volume Shampoo

I love Phillip Kingsley’s treatments and conditioners so I wanted to try a shampoo too and this one has quickly become my new fav volume shampoo! It makes the hair light without stripping off moisture, LOVE! Get it here.

2. Phillip Kinglsey Conditioner Moisture Balance

It’s unbelievable how soft it makes my hair, almost like a hair mask only you get much more product for your money :) Get it here.

3. Kerastase Forcintense

I’ve used this for probably about 7 years or so now and it’s still my favourite for when my hair really needs that bit of extra attention, which normally is proteins. The treatment is divided in two, first step is to nurture the hair follicle and second is to lock in the proteins. This is some serious hair salon stuff and I always feel like I’m spoling my hair whenever I use it. I can’t recommend it enough! Get it here.

4. Kerastase Ciment Thermique

Heat protectant and heat activating hair mask in one! It smells really good, makes my hair soft and easy managable and protects against heat – what’s not to love? Get it here.

5. Kérastase Nutritive masqueintense

A great mask for when moisture is needed! I only use it in the ends of my hair and so it lasts forever despite the fact that I use it almost every time I wash my hair. Both this and the Kerastase Forcintense mentioned above are must haves if you don’t want the hair dresser to cut off your locks! Get it here.

6. John Masters Organics deep scalp follicle treament and volumiser

I’ve written a review about this one too, you can read it here if you missed it. The photos in the review tells better than any words, my hair started growing insanely faster after I started using this. To be honest it doesn’t provide that much volume, but the health of the sclap and the growth of the hair is tremendous! Definitely a must have if you’re saving for long hair! Get it here.

7. Diva hot air styler

I’ve written a review on this not too long ago, if you missed it you can read it here. It’s a salon blow dry at home basically! Really easy to use, easier on the hair than curling irons and good value for the money. Get it here.

8. Clip in hair extension

I’d prefer to keep this to my self as it’s one of those things you like to pretend to be real, but I do sometimes cheat when it comes to my hair. I find clip ins the perfect solution for me as it both looks and feels perfectly real and is easy and quick to apply, yet I don’t have to sleep with it or work out with it. I use the shade 60/24 – Sandy Blonde, a full set + quad clip, you can get it here.

I have written a long list of products you’ve recommended in the comment section of the previous Beauty Awards on my phone to try next I run out of something, but I would still love to hear your favourites! Word of mouth is the best way to discover a product, right? ♥ xx

background Monthly Beauty Awards February

The last two days has gone by in a whim! It was wonderful to come home and see my dog again, but just as we stepped foot at home in London being all reunited my boyfriend took off for Dubai so now it’s just me and little Linus the talented pomeranian. These two days I’ve been busy unpacking and being domestic, as well as running between appointments and being social. It was nice to have a bit of sunshine in Monaco, but it feels really good to be back in London – I’m much more of a city person! Anyway, it sounded like you wanted me to keep summing up my favourite beauty products of each month, so here is February favourites for you. Better late than never, right? ;)

IMG 3415 Lets talk hair

I’ve received lots of questions about my hair recently so I thought I’d share my hair routine and how I style it as well as little hair secrets I’ve picked up along the way. So this is for the hair obsessed out there ;)

The top secret to full and fabulous hair is to stop highlighting and colouring your hair, maybe not a secret, but it really damages your hair far more that you’re aware. Highlights kill your hair more than anything in the chemical process! Two years ago I stopped highlighting my hair and it has made such a dramatic difference. Not only does my hair feel much healthier, but it’s also much thicker as well due to less breakage. I also avoid brushing the hair while wet as the hair is much more prone to breaking while wet.

Equally important is treating your hair with moisture and proteins, and let’s not forget the scalp as an unhealthy scalp won’t produce as healthy hair as a happy scalp. My favourite hair treatments are:

hair treatments Lets talk hair

Kerastase Forcintense – HERE // Philip Kingsley Elastiziser - HERE // Kérastase Masquintense - HERE // Philip Kingsley Stimulating Scalp Mask - HERE

I use the Forcintense about every 2 weeks, Elastisizer and Scalp Mask before every hair wash and Masquintense after every shampooing. When shampooing I only wash the scalp and top half of hair to avoid stripping the lengths of moisture, I learnt that from an article I read about Gisele Bundchen years ago. Oh, while we’re on about celebrity hair routines, Jennifer Lopez sleeps with the hair mask overnight to get maximum moisture. Personally I find my hair becomes a little heavy for my fine scandinavian hair type, but if you have thicker hair it’s probably great.

As for styling I’m too vain to stay off all electrical tools, but avoiding them completely will mean you don’t dry out your hair and the result of that is soft and healthy hair. I manage to stay away from the worst kinds, which are curling irons and flat iron, and only cheat with a hot air styler once or twice a week or every second hair wash. Before that I prep my hair with:

hair styling Lets talk hair

Kérastase Ciment Thermique – HERE // John M Organics scalp toner and volumiser – HERE // Moroccan Oil – HERE

The Ciment Thermique is actually a heat activating mask and it makes the hair incredibly soft once the hot air styler has brushed through. I could never survive without this. The Scalp Toner helps my hair grow faster and keep my scalp happy through the day. Moroccan oil is the last finishing touch to give the locks that lustrous shine at the same time as it protects the hair and holds moisture in. I like to squeeze it in to the hair rather than swiping it through.

IMG 34161 Lets talk hair

I forgot my beloved hot air styler in Monaco so I went to Boots to find something similar and it works ok, but I prefer the previous one which can be found here.

IMG 3466 Lets talk hair

And that’s all folks. Btw, did you notice the incredibly beautiful blouse I’m wearing today? I’m completely obsessed about it and I can’t believe how cheap it was! Because I’m so in love with it I’m just going to assume you are too and I’m going to beat you to it before you ask where it’s from – you can find it here. It’s almost a pity wearing the hair down because the back is my favourite part, whispering little songs of spring ♥

Hope you found the post useful and that you’re enjoying your weekend :) xx

nail head Makeup Tutorial from my New Years Eve look

Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Medium
Party factor: 10

After I posted my New Years Eve outfit I got lots of requests for a makeup tutorial for the makeup look and here it is! Better late than never, right? :D

Products you’ll need:

Subculture

1. Start by slapping on some eyeshadow primer. Often you can skip certain steps in makeup tutorials and use what you have, and that includes this tutorial, but this particular step can’t be skipped and you’ll know why if you have an eyeshadow primer in your kit. It helps the shadow stay in place all night and you avoid getting the racoon on heroin look.

2. Wash a skin toned eyeshadow all over your eyelid using a big fluffy brush, this will be your base and will make it easier to blend the other shadows in the next steps.

3. Slap on some eyeliner along the lash line. You really don’t have to be very particular about it as we’ll smudge it out in the next step. I’m using a brown eyeliner, you can find it by clicking the image of the product above.

4. Smudge the eyeliner using a short bristled brush creating a smooth smokey finish to the lash line. It will bring some more attention to the eyes without becoming too dark and overpowering.

5. Using a medium sized fluffy brush, blend in a dark brown shadow to the outer corner of the eye and into the socket like in the picture above. Blend well in the outer corner. You can also add some more of the nude shadow, or one with a bit of shimmer just to the middle of the eyelid blending inwards.

6. Line the lash line with a black liquid liner making sure you get the liner in between the lashes as well, also known as tight lining. Add false lashes if you want, my favourites are 113, wispies and demi wispies from Ardell. Today I used the latter. (I buy them in Boots and Ebay)

7. Using a liquid gold liner line the outer part of your lash line, just above the black liner. Let it dry and go over again until the line is opaque enough. I think i did about 3-4 layers.

8. Do the same under the eye in the inner corner stopping about half way of the eye. As for the face I followed the exact same steps as in this tutorial ;)
