Storage Solutions

Before/ Organised for winter:

IMG 1185 Project spring clean = done :D

IMG 1172 Project spring clean = done :D

I did make a few changes after I took these, but I couldn’t find any proper pictures. The clothes stayed the same, i just changed around a bit in the shelves.

After / Organised for spring/summer:

IMG 77121 Project spring clean = done :D

Tadaaa, finally! I stayed up really late yesterday sorting through clothes. Once I was done sorting I decided to change the closet and I’ll probably change it again, because that just how I am, but for now I am really happy with the result. The colours make me so happy :)

IMG 77181 Project spring clean = done :D

The main change is obviously on the left wall where I have added two clothing rails. They are actually not clothing rails, I ordered two pull up bars to avoid having to screw and maybe ruin the dressing room :D It works just as well as clothing rails, and I can move them in the future if I feel like. Score!

HAPPY!!! Have you organised yours for spring/summer?

I can’t believe I’m finally showing you this, it’s so embarrassing. Somehow my brain makes me believe I NEED all of this, even though I clarely don’t. You know you have a makeup obsession  when you feel you really have to have “that new limited edition eyeshadow Mac just launched which is just a smidgen lighter than a couple of other eyeshadows you have, but still not as light as those other ones. It’s unique!” Recognize yourself? ;D

Anyway, here is my collection and how I store it.

First drawer:

There you have it, my awful obsession. I almost feel like I’m uncovering my darkest secrets.. In fact, I’m planning on going through it all and putting some of it up in the blog sale like I have seen other bloggers do. I have so many items I have only used once or twice, even some that are unopened, and I do not need it even though I like to convince my self I do.

Do you have a makeup obsession?

IMG 17321 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

We have all experienced the agony of dropping a powder product onto the floor and seeing it break into a million pieces. We keep the broken product because we love it way too much to throw it away, but everytime we use it the powder goes all over the place. If only there was a solution…

No need to throw it away, and no need to keep a broken product in your stash. I’ve got the solution!! :D

1. Put your item on top of a big piece of paper or a towel to protect the work surface, and start to mash up the rest of the product in the case untill it becomes a powder. I just used a small tweezer to do it.

IMG 1734 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

2. Pour in a little bit of alcohol solution, I bought my 70% alcohol solution in the supermarket by the plasters and things.

IMG 1735 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

3. Mix the alcohol into the powder untill it becomes a paste like texture. There is no real answer to how much to pour in, just do a little bit at a time to get the right texture and it should be fine.

IMG 17361 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product
4. Try to get the paste as compact as possible and flatten out the surface.

IMG 1737 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

5. Sanitize your hands. If your hands are not fully sanitized you may end up with a crisp layer on top of the powder. Get a piece of kitchen paper or an old but very clean towel and put it on top of the powder to make it absorb the excess alcohol. Continue doing this untill your powder is starting to get drier. You probably need to do this at least 20 times. When the powder is getting drier, you need to put more pressure on it to really squeeze out the last bit of alcohol.

IMG 1738 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

6.  When you feel you can’t squeeze out anymore liquid, you leave it to dry. Depending on how good your sqeezing job was it can take 2-5 hours untill it’s dry, I left mine over night just to be sure.

IMG 1740 How to save a cracked powder product/ Press a mineral product

Tadaaa! The blush is just as new :D If you were wondering, the cheap but very amazing contour product I performed this to is a Nyx blush named Taupe. It’s hands down my absolute favorite contour product!!

I love Mac eyeshadows and blushes, not only for the fact that they are of really good quality, they are also incredibly easy to store nicely as both of these products fit into palettes. The problem with this however is that it starts to get incredibly annoying when you suddenly have more than two palettes as you never know what eyeshadows or blushes are inside which palette. Storing them on top of eachother is also annoying when you are at that level where you’ve harvested about all the Mac shadows and blushes that has come your way and now have a pile of 4 or 5 palettes or maybe even more. I have found a solution :)

IMG 1632 Storage Solutions: Makeup Palettes

Solution to Storage:

holders Storage Solutions: Makeup Palettes

I’ve found that pot lid holders (norwegian: kjelelokkholdere) is the perfect thing to store palettes in wheather it’s Mac or other big palettes like the ones from Urban Decay or Coastal Scents.

Untitled 1 Storage Solutions: Makeup PalettesI found both of mine in Ikea :)

Solution to Organising:

To avoid having to flick thhrough all the palettes you have to find the one you want you can mark the palette in the corner with the colour nail polish of the colours of your eyeshadows inside:

Summer dresses are replaced with warm and cozy winter dresses and sweaters. Some of the nicer summer dresses I had to keep hanging as they don’t do being folded up very well, but it’s ok.. It makes me happy to see them anyway :)

IMG 0642 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

IMG 0634 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

After having searched everywhere for a proper nail polish rack, I finally found one on Ebay and Transdesign only to be disappointed by the outrageous prices of the shipping fees. Shipping ended up costing even more than the rack itself in which I by pure principle refuse to spend money on. So I decided to make my own from things I already had at home :) All you need is:

IMG 0614 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

  • A cardboard
  • A ruler and/or tape measure
  • A pen
  • Baking paper, wrapping paper or some pretty fabric
  • Scissors
  • Strong Glue
  • Tape
  • A knife or a cutting thingy
  • Music
  • Patience
  • A bit of Candy
The card board I used was only 2 mm and it works perfectly so you don’t need to worry about getting a reallty thick foam one.
IMG 0729 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

Measurements and how to:

  1. Measure the width, height and depth of the shelf or area where you plan to place your display. In my case the shelf is really deep so the depth will be determined by the height and width. Remember to make the display a few cm smaller than the dimensions of your shelf so that you can easily fit it in once it’s done. I decided to make mine 43 cm wide, 20 cm high and 20 cm deep (leaving 2-3 cm extra room around the display). Based on my measurements I cut two pieces of the shape shown below which will be the base and the back of the display:measurements 2 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)
  2. To determin how many shelves you can fit (height wise) you need to measure your nail polishes. Place them next to each other in an imaginary ladder formation like shown below. In my case I could fit 5 rows of nail polishes although it might have made more sense to only have 4 rows, woohoo!! Which means that each shelf would be 4 cm on top of the other (4 cm x 5 shelves = 20 cm)
nailpoish measure Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)
  3. To determin how deep each shelves needs to be you need to measure the width of your nail polish. I decided to make mine 4 cm wide which makes it easier for my self as the height of each shelf is 4 cm as well :)measure width nail polish Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)
  4. Now on to the ingenering part ;) So this is the structure. The turquoise (Nauvelle Vague) and the blue bits we have already determined in step 1. nailpoish measure1 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)
  5. The orange ( Orange Fizz) piece will be 4 cm x 4 cm x 4 cm which means you need to cut your rectangular piece into 43 cm x 12 cm, then scratch slightly with the knife along the two lines in the midle like shown below. After you’ve scratched along the lines you bend the piece so that you get the desired shape like in the picture above.orange fizz Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)
  6. The yellow (Mimosa) piece will be 8 cm x 4 cm x 8 cm (43 cm x 20 cm), The red (Quarter of a CentuCherry) will be 12 cm x 4 cm x 12 cm (43 cm x 28 cm), The lilac (Do You Liliac it?) will be 16 cm x 4 cm x 16 cm (43 cm x 36 cm). You do the same with these as you did with Orange Fizz :)
  7. To hide the ugly cutted corners I chose to wrap the pieces in baking paper simply because I didn’t have anything else. If you have some spare wrapping paper or even some pretty fabric lying around I highly recommend using that to make it prettier :)
  8. Now we’ll put all these pieces together :) Start by adding glue along the bottom of the blue piece (one of the 43 cm sides) and place it along the side of the Turquoise Nouvelle Vague base piece and let it dry.
  9. Use tape and tape the Lilac (Do You Liliac it?) piece onto the blue back. Then continue doing the same with the rest of the pieces untill it looks something like mine in the picture below. Try to make the shelves tilt slightly so that your nail polishes will rest firmly against the back.IMG 0636 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

Since I was just placing mine in a shelf I didn’t need to worry about how it lookes like from the side but if you are planning on placing yours where one or both of the sides can be seen I recommend cutting triangle shaped pieces and stick them onto the sides. Tadaaaa :D

IMG 0662 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

IMG 0661 Project Storage Solutions: Nail polishes (or paint pots, palettes or even jewellery)

I hope you liked it even though it’s wrapped in baking paper ;) Next up will be how to store big palettes like Mac palettes, Urban Decay Book Of Shadows, Z palettes ++

I’ve started my quest for the perfect organised dressing room.

I decided to start with my extensions which untill now has been tossed around to different shelves causing tangles and weird waves. Sure, I could keep them in the plastic bag they came in, but I wanted a more practical way to store them while the hair is still kept safe. I googled for a while and fell in love with Miss Chevious solution which I slightly altered a little bit:

1. All you need is a hanger and a ribbon.

IMG 0631 Project Dressing Room: Hair Extension Storage (for clip on)

2. Wrap the ribbon around the hanger and tie a bow in of the ends of the hanger. Clip on the hair as you would in your own hair.

IMG 0630 Project Dressing Room: Hair Extension Storage (for clip on)

haroppbevaring Project Dressing Room: Hair Extension Storage (for clip on)

Hang the hanger together with the clothes you use the least so that it causes as little friction as possible. If you don’t have a safe place to hang it, then put it inside a clothing bag to protect it :)

Next up will be storage of nail polishes :)

I came across a brilliant blog post by Malin about desticking the JEP and loved the idea of having my JEP in jars just like the Mac paint pots as so I ordered 25 Placstic 5 Gram Jar container pots with black lids and 63 round white removable jar labels stickers sheet from Ebay.

JEP is short for Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil which are cream eyeshadows in a stick. These cream eyeshadows works wonderfully underneath a powder eyeshadow to get a vibrant colour. Some people like to use them as a primer but I feel they are too greasy for this purpose so I normally use a primer underneath. The reason why I love these JEPs so much is because they cost almost nothing ($2.5 US on ebay) and yet they make such a big difference for a look like with a pink eyeshadow for example. A light pink eyeshadow on it’s own is difficult to get to show up without looking sick, using a white JEP underneath however makes the colour vibrant and clean looking. You can buy the Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils from Nyx at CherryCulture or Ebay.

When I got back from Beirut the packages had arrived and I was thrilled to finally get down to business and get them organised in my drawer so this is what I spent almost all day doing yesterday! I am a real neat freak so anything I can do to have my make up drawers more organised I will do. Seeing as it made me so happy I thought I’d share it with you in case I could make someone else happy as well :)
In addition to the JEP’s, jars and stickers I also used a kelp, a tweezer, a blow dryer and a bigger jar. You should also make sure you have a piece of paper or a towel to protect your work surface.

IMG 0077 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars

1. Start with pulling off the top of the pencil with the kelp. Some of the pencils were very easy as the top just slipped off, and some were harder were I actually ended up breaking the top off. It is very little product on the top so it doesn’t really matter either way.

IMG 0106 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars

2. Put the little jar in the bigger jar. I used one I had from Muji which is 30 grams. There is two reasons to why I chose to do this, one because it avoids a mess of product all over and two beacause the little jar is much more stabile as opposed to being on its own with the blow drier blowing it away. To make sure it really stays in place I put the jars between the handles of the kelp.

IMG 0105 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars

3. Start blowing on the pencil. I had very different results with all of them. Some of them had to melt completely before the product came out while other pencils slipped out still shaped like the stick. I started with the top while holding on to the plastic lid and then turned it around to do the other half.

IMG 0108 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars

4. When you can see through it you know it’s empty :)

IMG 0116 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars

5. Pick up the little jar with a tweezer and wash off any spilt product outside of the jar and make sure you wipe off the tweezer so that you dont get any mixed colours.

IMG 0112 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jarsIMG 0099 How to: Desticking NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils into jars6. Put on the sticker. I chose to place mine on top of the lid as I didn’t weant to cover the back as I like to see what the colour looks like without taking off the lid.

It’s really easy, but it takes a long time so do it a day you don’t have anything to do :) Good luck and have fun with it :)

I´ve been trying to treat and look after my nails to get a decent length, but it´s just not happening. Today I made the decision to just realize that my nails will never be nice just as they are. So I went to get gel nails. And I´m so happy I did! I´m really happy with how they turned out. I didn´t want them to be too long. I prefer having shorter nails. I can´t wait to try on the new nail polishes..
